Stories

To you, I am shiny. I am sweet. My skin was cautiously painted for you to admire; my hair was softly needled into my head. I exist to hang loosely underneath your arm as you walk down the street.

From a short story about racial identity. Winner of the Golden Pen Award for Make Noise Today's "Letter's to..." contest

“Nothing To See”

The gentle notes hummed. Each one was cinematic, singing a story of its own. They felt like winter snowfall or a collection of light on a flower.

“The Piano Room”

From “Ultimately, You,” a novel set in post-apocalyptic Japan.

She dressed like some sort of futuristic alien woman, piercing the outer atmosphere with her knife-like presence.

“The Punk”

From “Manic Lovers,” a novel about a cross-country road trip to NYC in 1981.

If there was a string, I’d imagine a knife plunging through its threads. The world would silence itself into miserable numbness at the snapping of the line, and I would stand there with the culprit blade in hand.

From a short story about grief and family.

“Luna”

Poems

My eyes do not radiate the oceanic tide.

They are pools of the void

mysterious and dark.

My skin is not the snow’s pale softness.

It is the light shining through a

fantastical forest.

“Am I Real Yet”

From a poem about racial identity. Selected for "GuildScript," First Place Award recipient from the American Scholastic Press Association.

I am the worst punishment. I am the greatest prison. I am the terrible end.

From a poem about villainy. Winner in Young Writers "Twisted Tales" competition and selected for publication.

“Reaping”

I stand at the foot of her throne

And I chip at the silver.

Yes, I loathe her whole self.

I loathe her righteous sermons,

I loathe her loving touch.

From a poem about female jealousy.

“She Is The Devil”

Where your words once were, dust lingers in the air. Where your hands once were, are the gaps between my fingers.

“How Beautiful You Are”

From a poem about the loss of a friend.
